Singer/songwriter duo Gates & Goodell play their original acoustic songs, in a style they call "West Coast Folk Rock", at live performances in pubs, restaurants and coffeehouses around the Ventura and Santa Barbara areas of the California coast. Their music is filled with rich harmonies and layered acoustic instrumentation, influenced by many artists including America, the Eagles, James Taylor, Loggins and Messina and the Beatles.

John Gates and Bill Goodell met at a Jimmy Messina (Buffalo Springfield, Poco, Loggins and Messina) songwriter workshop in 2002. Both had been writing and performing for years, and upon meeting discovered that their styles and tastes were complimentary.
